Marcel Gillis (Mons 1897 - 1972) était un artiste et une figure éblématique de la vie culturelle montoise près de 50 ans, y développant les activités artistiques, littéraires et folkloriques. Il est Artiste peinte, caricaturiste, poète, chansonnier. Sa peinture est caractérisée par des scènes familières et pittoresques, des natures mortes ou des scènes religieuses dont l’esprit se rapproche des peintres du groupe Nervia. Ses caricatures sont souvent grinçantes et engagées.
Après des études à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Mons, il est pendant plus de trente ans le conservateur du musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons.
Une exposition rétrospective lui est consacrée à Mons en 1983, qui lui offre en 1983 une exposition rétrospective.

Marcel Gillis (Mons 1897 - 1972) was an artist and an emblematic figure in Mons cultural life for almost 50 years, developing artistic, literary and folkloric activities there. He is a painted artist, caricaturist, poet, songwriter. His painting is characterized by familiar and picturesque scenes, still lifes or religious scenes whose spirit is close to the painters of the Nervia group. His caricatures are often gritty and engaging.
After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mons, he was the curator of the Museum of Fine Arts in Mons for more than thirty years.
A retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him in Mons in 1983, which offered him a retrospective exhibition in 1983.
